EMC is IMC's storage vendor of choice because it's the market leader in high-end storage and therefore better ensures our customers against technology obsolescence or financial failure, either of which could create unwanted disruption of service. EMC enjoys its market position because it not only offers devices with huge capacity but also because it has mastered sophisticated storage management. These capabilities allow IMC to offer our customers storage on demand. EMC equipment is tunable to such an extent that it permits virtually plug-and-play storage which means customers can readily scale storage capacity up or down in multiple-terabyte increments as required.
Some providers might opt for cheaper and less reliable solutions, but IMC has invested heavily in an EMC infrastructure to achieve advanced features such as an efficient and powerful backplane and redundant controllers that guarantee immediate failover with no loss of data if a component malfunctions. Of course, that translates to much lower mean time between failures.
